Sunnyview Primary Memorializes Teacher & 2 Students, There Is a Time to Go Back and You Can Go Home Again

Yesterday, Sunnyview Primary School had a tree planting event. The three river birch trees were donated by Whittle Springs Middle School were planted in memory of  6-year-old Zykia Burns, 7-year-old Seraya Glasper, and 46-year-old Knox County Schools employee Kimberly Riddle. Burns, Glasper and Riddle died in a December 2, 2014 Knox County school bus accident on Asheville Highway between the John Sevier Highway intersection and the Holston River Bridge.

Sunnyview Primary is the elementary school that I attended through grades 2-8. After my 8th grade year ended in 1980, I went to Carter High School, graduating Knox County School Carter in 1984.  After the ceremony, I walked he hallways, not much has changed. There are several temporary classroom buildings on the property that was the biggest playground ever. I remembered the time my head got cut on one of those throw out windows and many other memories. The quiet community was still quiet. It is proof there is a time to and you can go home again.

Brian thanks for coming out and posting the video you took. I was really disappointed that we were not important enough for Tim Burchett, he sent the guy with the weird beard and Chancellor Fansler’s daughter. Great seeing you there.

Was the County Mayor in attendance for this important event?

  3. BHornback says:

Thomas, No the County Mayor did NOT attend. He sent the Communications Manager and a female that I thought was Sarah Fansler. But I was told it was one of the Communication Directors employees
