Some politicians seem to be in campaign mode all the time. Others say one thing during the primary and then rely on gimmicks and stage props once in office to lull the public to sleep thinking they’re doing what was promised; even if they do, the budget numbers don’t lie.
But here in Tennessee, we are blessed to have a strong federal delegation. They walk the walk. Nobody knows walking the walk in Tennessee more than our United States Senator Lamar Alexander, who walked the walk across the entire state before becoming Governor. In fact, he’s the only one in Tennessee history to ever be popularly elected Governor and United States Senator.
During last year’s campaign, Lamar constantly talked about the ridiculous standardized testing in Common Core. We all heard him say over and over “we don’t need a national school board in Washington, D.C.” Well, he’s keeping his promise: last month his full committee voted to approve his bill to fix No Child Left Behind. Look for it to come up for a vote in the full Senate in the next couple of weeks.
We will continue to take a closer look at this effort next week while BrianHornback.Com takes a closer look at what our East Tennessee Senators and Congressmen are up to in Washington.
