This evening, the West Knox Republican Club met, the three candidates for Property Assessor spoke. The Presiding Officer Alexander O. Waters went in reverse alphabetical order.
First up was John Whitehead, during his 10 minute presentation, Knoxville Realtor Jim Ford asked a question and several others followed suit. Mr. Whitehead answered all questions.
Second up was Phil Ballard’s Chief Deputy Jim Weaver, during his presentation he was discussing the appeal board, a question was asked if his campaign treasurer is the Chairman of the Equalization Board. He asked if he could finish his presentation, which he did.
Third, Andrew Graybeal spoke and exposed several of the gross errors and omissions created under the Ballard/Weaver tenure.
When Waters asked for questions, he asked that only questions be asked that all three could answer, insulating Ballard’s Chief Deputy. When Waters was challenged, he said it’s the rules, but Waters did not use the said rules when Whitehead presented.
A call to the Knox County Mayor’s Office back in the Summer revealed that the Chairman of the Board that determines assessment appeals to be one Archie Johnson. On April 27, 2015 Jim Weaver appointed Archie Johnson as his campaign treasurer. The signed appointment form is below.
