Independent County Commission candidate Don Wiser in East Knox County’s 8th district is advertising here on BrianHornback.Com through Election Day August 4, 2016. Early Voting from July 15-30, 2016. Wiser is running as an Independent, not as a Republican or as a Democrat.
Wiser’s campaign focuses on representing the citizens of the 8th with proper planning to maximize services in the district that has not received the same services as other county districts. For example, back in the late 1990’s (1997, 1998) Knox County purchased property for a Middle School. Recently, Knox County sold that property. It isn’t clear what the new property owner plans to do with that property. Due to that property sale, Knox County is building the Middle School in the same vicinity as the Gibbs High and Elementary School. Placing 600 additional students and the all the traffic of buses and vehicle traffic in an area where Tazewell Pike, Emory Road are the same sized road for years, a time when Harbison Crossroads intersection has not been improved in years. Unconfirmed sources have indicated that the state is planning to move the 27 large metal utility poles in order to build sidewalks at a cost of $10,000 for moving each large pole. That is $270,000 when adding additional traffic lanes would be more logical than a sidewalk. However, there does not appear to be any planning or study to weigh the pros and cons of either and how best to serve the needs of the citizens.
When West Valley Middle School was built in Southwest Knox County in 1998. The two lane George Williams Road was expanded with turn lanes and a much wider George Williams Road from Peters Road to the school. When Amherst Elementary School was built in Northwest Knox County in 2003, Schaad Road from Western Avenue/Oak Ridge Highway was widened from a two lane road to a four lane road with a median and turn lanes. However, with the current County Commissioner and County Mayor no planning or consideration is taken in placing the school in an already overused cattle path roads.
Over on the Midway Road/Thorngrove Pike are of the 8th in the Carter community, the current Commissioner opposed a Knox County business park in 2010, but fast forward 5 years and he made the motion to create the business park. The citizens in Carter and Thorngrove communities minds have not changed, but the County Commissioner for some reason changed and he made the motion against the will of the citizens he was elected to represent.
It is time for the citizens of the 8th District to get Wiser! Elect Don Wiser in the 8th District Commissioner!
