Kent Calfee’s Opponents are an Interesting Pair

State Representative Kent Calfee of House District 32 has a Democrat and an Independent opposing him on the November 8 ballot. Early Voting is underway. Cory Stafford is the Democrat nominee and has done little campaigning but is the Democrat nominee on the ballot. Tyler Overstreet is the Independent, Overstreet’s voting record is filled with numerous Democrat votes and maybe two Republican votes, so he is apparently a Democrat that is too ashamed to be a Democrat, I can sympathize with his plight. Although, I have never lowered myself to Democrat leanings as he apparently has.

April 7, 2016 was the filing deadline to be a candidate, April 14, 2016 was the withdrawal deadline to be a candidate. Just last week we learned through this Roane County News story that Overstreet and a female companion on July 13, 2016 participated in an alleged altercation. The video provided by one of the alleged victims was posted on the Roane County News Facebook.

An ad was placed in the Roane County News which was a letter allegedly authored by an Attorney threatening suit to the complainants. Apparently, an interpretation of the letter is that a criminal history is reason enough to enter a home and commit your own brand of justice. Also, interesting is the Attorney in question is a former Roane County elected official that got beat by the actions of the voters and is STILL challenging the will and action of the voters in a court of law. Here is a Link to a post on vanshaver.com detailing the November 2015 appeal. Apparently, the letter did not have the desired effect as the father of the juvenile allegedly assaulted filed suit according to this 10/20/2016 Roane County News story.

Some history of Overstreet

In 2006 Overstreet challenged Roane County Executive Mike Farmer and was defeated by the voters of Roane County. Overstreet once served on the Roane County School Board and was defeated in 2008 by the voters. This Knox News Sentinel article details the will and actions of the voters.

All three county school board incumbents in the 5th/6th District were defeated Thursday.

Elected in that district were Kim R. Nelson, 1,744 votes; Hugh M. Johnson, 1,234 votes; and Rob Jago, with 1,077 votes.

Defeated incumbents were Tyler Overstreet, 902 votes; Danny Holloway, 899 votes; and Earl Nall, 747 votes.

Then according to this 10/4/2010 Roane County News story we discover that a couple cronies of Overstreet that served as County Commissioner’s attempted to appoint him back to a school board seat vacated because of Kim Nelson’s election as Circuit Court Clerk.

“The commission will decide who will fill the seat during a special-called meeting today, Oct. 4. The meeting will start 7 p.m. in the Roane County Courthouse.

“I think, my 2 cents’ worth, is I think we ought to consider Tyler,” said Commissioner Randy Ellis.

Ellis asked Earick if she favors electing or appointing a director of school.”

So, in 2006 Overstreet was rejected countywide, in 2008 Overstreet was rejected by the District 5/6 voters, in 2010 Overstreet was rejected by the Roane County Commission. In 2016, he and his cronies are hoping Roane County and Loudon County have forgotten his numerous rejections by the voters.

Kent Calfee has been endorsed by the NRA, TN Right to Life, NFIB and many, many others.
