UPDATE: State Representative Rick Staples has returned my phone call this morning. He said that the election commission appointments had not even crossed his mind when Betty mentioned it. Staples told me he will consider and talk with all individuals interested when the time comes.
So at the end of ole Betty Bean‘s column this week, the last paragraph is interesting. “Staples is likely to fill Roberto’s seat with sitting party chair Cameron Brooks, a former election commissioner who last week told party leaders that he will step down as chair when his term ends in the spring.”
I have called State Representative Rick Staples for comment, however, I hope Staples is not going to do that. Of the 5 member Knox County Election Commissioners. Andrew Roberto is the hardest working Knox County Election Commissioner. Here I reported where he spoke to the College Republicans at UTK about early voting sites. Here is the story where Roberto was the ONLY Election Commissioner to attend the culling of the TN House District 13 provisional ballots on Monday. The three Republican Election Commissioners are Chris Heagerty, Robert ‘Bob’ Bowman and Hannah Parker. The two Democrats are Roberto and Cassandra McGee Stuart.
The good news is that Brooks recognizes his work as Democrat Chair has opened the grave for the casket of the Knox County Democrat Party and has according to party leader sources of ole Bean, that he will step down as Chair this year. Brooks was unable to pick up any seat from the Republicans, including Gloria Johnson and he lost the County Commission Second District seat.
