Democrat State Rep. Rick Staples is recommending Knox County Democrat Chairman Cammie Brooks for one of two Democrat positions on the five person Knox County Election Commission. People are saying it is because of Brooks assistance in helping Staples defeat of Pete Drew and Rhonda Gallman.
What the slight of hand is missing is that Brooks was one of the 15 that named Staples the Democrat nominee. Gallman has publicly stated that Brooks was NOT forthcoming and committed to Staples before the meeting of 15 Democrats, read our October 16, 2016 story, here.
Did Brooks early support of Staples that Gallman spoke of and exposed part of a quid pro quo? So, did Cammie’s support for Staples come with a agreement to appoint Cammie back to the Election Commission. A position he once held. There are several others who would serve better, Former South Knox County Commission Candidate James Brandon Hamilton, Former State Representative candidate Brandi Price, Former Fifth District Knox County Commission Candidate Sheri Ridgeway, Susan Jennings, Jim Jennings, Nancy Stinnette, Shannon Webb, June Jones, Vivian Shipe, Ursula Bailey, Nancy Stewart, Doug Veum, Former Knox County Commissioner and Former School Board Member Robert Bratton to name a few.
