Over the weekend there was extensive wind damage all over East TN. There were media reports and social media references to neighbors helping neighbors clean up toppled trees and damage. BUT, what about Knox County government? All they did was stay at the cookouts, beer drinking festivities and issue several press releases informing people to stay out of a public park, The Cove until they can assess the damage on Tuesday morning.
Under previous administrations of County Executive Dwight Kessel, Tommy Schumpert and Mike Ragsdale work was performed within hours of an incident. Not put off until the next “working day” because those three men and their administrations knew that public safety is what they were responsible and were handsomely paid to do. Of course, in today’s Knox County Government, it is to hire former investigative reporters to issue press releases and advisories.
