Local Businessman Off to Fast Start in Run to Replace Duncan
Small businessman and part-time legislator Jimmy Matlock enters the final two months of 2017 with $151,912 cash in his campaign to win the Republican nomination to succeed Rep. Jimmy Duncan in Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District Matlock raised $167,545 for the reporting.
“We’ve gotten off to a good start in just five weeks raising money, but it’s the encouragement of people every place I go that really excites me,” said Rep. Matlock “We will work hard through the end of the year to continue to raise support and meet the good people of the 2nd District.”
Rep. Matlock’s filing with the Federal Election Commission, three days before the Sunday deadline, shows the campaign received $167,545 from his announcement in early August through Sept. 30, with $75,000 in seed money coming from the candidate in the form of two loans, which Matlock said demonstrates his commitment to the race.
“The cost of running for Congress today speaks clearly to the reason Washington does not work for regular people anymore,” said Rep. Matlock. “Really, the cost of running for federal office is obscene.”
Rep. Matlock is the owner of three Matlock Tire Service and Auto Repair centers in the 2nd District. He has served as a state legislator for parts of Loudon and Monroe counties since 2006 while continuing to manage and grow his family business.
Greg Butcher with the Matlock campaign said the campaign will be focused on organization and voter contact activities for the remainder of 2017 as it gears up for 2018.
The 2nd Congressional District includes the counties of Knox, Loudon, Blount, Claiborne, Grainger, Jefferson and part of Campbell.
