“There has been a lot written about lawsuits popping up around the South and especially in Tennessee. For example, The Tennessean had an article up who was representing Williamson County in their opioid lawsuit.
While there is no doubt the opioid epidemic has been terrible for our state, I am always curious about who these out-of-state lawyers are, and especially their political leanings (remember, Williamson County is one of the biggest GOP counties in Tennessee).
To no surprise, these out-of-state trial lawyers have given a lot of money to Democrats. What I was very surprised to find is just the level of giving they were giving to Democrats.
A quick search found that they gave almost $1.8 million to Democrats and only $6,200 to Republicans.
And, who are some of the candidates and causes the lawyers representing conservative taxpayers in Williamson County?
· $319,663 to DSCC, the organization supporting Phil Bredesen and committed to flipping the Senate and making Chuck Schumer Senate Majority leader
· $91,166 to President Obama
· $89,385 to the Democrat National Committee
· $81,000 to DCCC, the organization who works to elect a Democrat Congress and make Nancy Pelosi the next Speaker of the House
· $67,753 to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign
· $58,750 to former Senator Harry Reid
· $17,1000 to Elizabeth Warren
They have also given to Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and disgraced former Senator Al Franken.
Now why is a such a Republican county like Williamson County putting its taxpayers on the hook with those who have been big fundraisers of Democrats? If these lawsuits are successful, would not the money these lawyers recoup (about 1/3 of all money awarded) will go to fund efforts to support Democrats here in Tennessee in 2018 and ultimately defeat Donald Trump in 2020.
A question to ask any elected official that agrees to enter lawsuits with these out-of-state trial lawyers is “why are you helping defeat Republicans in 2018 and President Trump in 2020?”
County officials need to re-think jumping in to bed with these out-of-state lawyers who reap large settlements that ultimately go to fund Democrats across the country. Let’s hope they don’t come to Knox County and if they do, our County Commissioners will reject their promise of big payouts that will ultimately go to elect Democrats.”
