Successful Businessman Jimmy Matlock conceded to his second place finish in the TN Second Congressional District race to replace Rep. John J. Duncan, Jr. about 10 p.m. last night.
The winner of the primary Tim Burchett received 48.19% of the district vote or 47,864 votes; Matlock received 36.09% or 35,845 votes; Sarah Ashley Nickloes received 11.03% or 10,955 votes; Jason Emert received 2.32% or 2,304 votes; Hank Hamblin received 0.86% or 855 votes; Vito Sagliano received 0.85% or 844 votes and C. David Stansberry received 0.66% or 656 votes.
In his remarks last night, Matlock said he will support Burchett the Republican nominee in the November 6, 2018 General Election, where he will face Democrat nominee Rene Hoyos and Independent (Libertarian) Greg Samples.
The interesting turn of events in the last week was the journalistic malpractice of Victor Ashe in the Knoxville News Sentinel that published this week that Matlock would finish fourth behind Nickloes and Emert. Ashe and his wife were contributors and host of a fundraiser at their private residence for Burchett. Ashe spent four weeks in the newspaper with a bias against Matlock.
