at yesterdays retreat the 11 Commissioners were split into three working groups. The first exercise was to work together for 20 minutes on identifying the counties strengths, the successes and the counties periods of excellence.
My thoughts on this exercise. Some Commissioners keep looking back to 12 years ago to say “we are better than then” and the period of excellence is 37 years ago.
Some of these Commissioners believe they have the given right to set county policy for ten years in the future, tying the hands of two and a half terms of Commissioners and Mayors behind them.
Law Director attorneys have continually told the School Board they can not tie the hands of future school boards.
Commissioners are elected for a four year term. No more, No less. If they are re-elected, they are re-elected to another four year term. They should not think or act past more than the term they have been elected too.
A few of the Commissioners were so impressed with themselves, there is discussion of another retreat in 6 months.
Stay tuned.
