First District City Councilwoman Stephanie Welch, who just completed two years as Councilwoman in a four year term was on WATE Tennessee This Week.
Welch has been tapped in a new leadership role wit the City of Knoxville as Development Chief. She will be resigning February 17, 2020 and the new Council will appoint someone to complete Welch’s term.
The Kincannon appointments of David Brace, Erin Gill and Charles Lomax, Jr. all on the face appear legit. They all have backgrounds to do what they have been tapped to do.
BUT Welch raises eyebrows, her degree is in public health, she is in Army Reserve (which is commendable and admirable), this year she resigned a position with Great Schools Partnership. BUT, none of that is experience in Economic and Community Development.
If the intent was to reward Welch with a full time, well paid job so be it. If the intent was to remove her from Council to replace with a more cooperative vote on council or a better Council Representative then so be it.
However, a public health position or a veteran affairs position would be more suitable, in my humble opinion. BUT Knoxville got out of indigent care, public health business and I am not sure they’ve ever been in the veterans services business.
