This morning, several East TN County Mayors along with Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon spoke to the the media to voice support for TN Governor Bill Lee’s plan to reopen the TN economy.
Roane County Mayor Ron Woody, Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank, Loudon County Mayor Buddy Bradshaw, Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters, Union County Mayor Jason Bailey were present. Grainger County Mayor Mike Byrd was unable to attend. Town of Farragut Mayor Ron Williams was in attendance.
Loudon’s Bradshaw said that he had been in communication with the Loudon, Lenoir City, Greenback and Philadelphia Mayors. He asked that people shop local, don’t be reckless, follow social distancing. The virus is here and may be here forever. Loudon has 6 active cases out of 55,000 citizens.
Roane County’s Woody asked two things, Respect each other (those who wear masks and those who don’t) and be Responsible Citizens.
Knox County’s Jacobs said that Knoxville and Knox County’s joint task force should have its guidelines out by the end of the week.
Knoxville Mayor Kincannon is pleased that the efforts so far have flattened the curve and wants to continue to work to ensure the public’s health and well being is at the forefront.
Great show of leadership & support from our mayors howver… Mayor Bradshaw’s statement “the virus may be here forever…” was a disappointing show of support and confidence and optimism (which the general public needs to hear from our leaders now not just doom and gloom) and Bradshaws statement in my opinion showed little confidence and lack of good faith in our nation’s top medical staff & top scientists who are working hard to find successful vaccines and imminent cures for this virus so that hopefully & prayerfully “this virus WON’T be here forever”.
