Last week, Wednesday May 6, School Boarder Mike McMillan (who plead guilty to one charge of animal cruelty on March 10, 2020, for multiple citations from October and November 2019) requested that the Knox County School Board have its budget meeting in person in lieu of the Zoom Video Conferencing meetings. That budget meeting is scheduled for May 27, 2020.
This week, Wednesday May 13, School Boarder Terry Hill made a motion to add to the agenda an item for a discussion and possible vote on the budget process. It passed, when it came time, Hill said it was because of McMillan’s comments the week before that she wanted to offer to have the budget meeting in person. Unfortunately, it seems the public will NOT be able to attend, they must still only watch online. What notes are passed, what discussions outside of camera, we will have no idea. School Board Chair Susan Horn during the discussion said twice, we have been talking about this. Who is this we? Is it she and the Superintendent? Is it she and another elected School Boarder?
Interesting, that McMillan all of a sudden, wants meetings in person, when in fact he missed every meeting in January, February and two of three meetings in March of this year.
In fact, on January 21, 2020 Lisa Starbuck the Secretary of the Knox County Charter Review Committee posted a statement for McMillan on facebook community page. In this statement McMillan alleges he had only missed one meeting of the board, when in fact he missed the two previous meetings, January 8 and January 15, 2020.
In a search on the Knox County School Board Meeting Minutes during the current term of McMillan September 1, 2016 – August 31, 2020. McMillan has missed 16 meetings, 6 of those in 2020, that is the equivalent of three months or one quarter of 2020. Read the attendance meetings for yourself below.
