I am told that TN State House District 14 Rep. Jason Zachary was one of the early encouragers and primary supporter of TN State House District 18 Republican candidate Eddie Mannis.
Last week the TN Equality Project came out with their endorsements and it should make one go hmmmm.
They have endorsed Mannis in the TN House District 18, read the entire list of the groups endorsements here.
The TNEP are are also targeting Zachary for a piece of legislation filed in 2019, read the Memphis Flyer article here of the TEP targeted legislation.
Zachary’s SB364/HB563: The Business License to Discriminate bill prevents local governments from favoring companies that have good workplace policies like inclusive non-discrimination. Filed in 2019.
The idea of Zachary and Mannis working together also brings up an interesting scenario.
Zachary was co-author of the video that targeted the Knox County Board of Health. In addition, during the Sunmer 2020 legislative session, Zachary filed Legislation that would strip the BOH of its power. State Senator Richard Briggs that represents much of Zachary’s District killed the legislation in a State Senate committee.
If Mannis is the Representative for District 18 next year. The question is how will he vote on any Legislation that strips the Board of Health of its authority, as his company Prestige Cleaners has transitioned into a mask manufacturing plant with several mask selling retail locations in and around Knox County?
Zachary faces Justin Davis on November 3 in the General Election. While Mannis faces Knoxville Attorney and Entrepreneur Virginia Couch. Early Voting begins this Wednesday October 14 and runs through 29.
This seems like a non-story.
