Last night, the Knox County Board of Health met and for several days before the meeting there was much chatter about a request to extend their authority to adjoining counties. When the time came, the discussion centered on creating this request to TN Governor Bill Lee for a statewide mask mandate and this Knox County Safer at Home and Business Guidance.
Board of Health Member Dr. Pat O’Brien explained that the reason to put out the possible request in that way he did was similar to how a legislator will create a caption bill so that when it comes time, whatever they do they will have a place to insert it. The BOH like all other governmental bodies (except the legislature) can not discuss items without the meeting and the discussion being public. Both items were created during the meeting in compliance with the “Sunshine Law”.
