Wednesday January 27, 2021 the Merit System Council of the Knox County Sheriffs Office met.
Marcus Kennedy, Knox County HR Director updated the Council on a new application software system that Knox County has implemented that the Merit System and Knox County Sheriff’s Office can and are expected to utilize. You can watch the update here or below

The Council approved one job description change for a Health Services position, approved two NEW job descriptions in the Pre-Trial Release program.
They approved a Grievance Hearing for Knox County Sheriff’s employee Lisa Jarrell, the date for the hearing has not been set.
They approved a Grievance Hearing for longtime Knox County Sheriff’s employee Martha Dooley, the date for the hearing has not been set.
Knox Sheriff’s HR employee Lisette Aviles asked the council for some changes to the Application for Employment. The Council seemed to be amenable to it, they will work on the changes and bring back for approval at another Council meeting.
Aviles also asked that if the council to consider a rule change that if Knox Sheriff fires someone that the person not be eligible for re-hire, the council seemed amenable to that. Aviles also went on to request that if she interviews someone and she determines that they are not a good fit that she would like for them to be removed for further interviews. That did not seem to be favorable to the Council, but I will stay on it. Watch the request and discussion here or below.
Council Chairman Jim Jennings announced that at the next meeting, he intends to nominate Gina Oster as Chair and he will become a regular voting member as will Jim Wright, Jr. as well.
