Today at 2:30 pm, the Knox County Health Department announced to the media a press briefing for 3 p.m.
Dr. Martha Buchanan announced that the Department lost 975 vaccines.
My questions were
Do you know where the 975 physically are? Did you locate them? Were they destroyed?
There is no way they are out in the black market?
Will there be disciplinary actions taken toward the employee(s)?
disposed of, as in the landfill, incinerated?
What was Mayor Jacobs reaction? Dr. Buchanan said that would be a good question for the Mayor. I emailed Mike Donila and Abby Harris at 3:19 pm. At 3:59 pm, the following was sent out,
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs issues the following statement on the Pfizer doses.
“I am proud of Dr. Martha Buchanan and I am confident in the good work the Knox County Health Department does every day. I certainly wish this had not happened, but I also think it’s unrealistic to believe that when you’re undertaking an operation of this magnitude mistakes won’t be made. KCHD is taking a close look at their processes and will do everything they can to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
I am disappointed in the Mayor’s response. This Mayor allowed his former Chief of Staff to resign and terminated the former Parks and Recreation Director and the Comptroller’s findings have NOT been finalized and released. However, 975 vaccines that could save lives and is nearly double the number of lives lost in Knox County, 509 deaths in Knox County since the pandemic began.
But, he has hired a political hack on his staff.

Yea, she doesn’t know where those 975 vaccines went to. I am more that disappointed in Mayor Jacobs. He has left that incompetent director of KCHD in place while he himself fired good people and let her fire many good people at the HD. I have no use for her AND I have no use for Mayor Jacobs. He has shown his true colors and they both need to GO.
