Last year, I outed here the power play by the Knox County Parks and Recreation to take over the Rugby Park, that the county paid NOTHING to create, the work continues by the Rugby community, read it here. Eventually, both sides agreed to a process moving forward.
A bit later in the year, there was the resignation of Mayor Glenn Jacobs Chief of Staff and the firing of the Parks Director, because of an investigation. Read it here.
Then one night in December, the Gibbs Ruritan Park and the park behind East Knox Elementary got all the wiring stripped. Read WVLT‘s story here. Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Park and Recreation have not found the thieves that committed the crime. A source has told me that there were donations to pay for the repairs. A significant contribution from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Right before the Gibb’s community needed the park the repair was made by two local companies.
The Knox County Commissioners were told a couple weeks ago, at the Commission retreat, read it here, the search for next Director is down to two finalists.
I then discovered by asking that Chuck James, Director of Parks has retired without notice or fanfare that normally occurs when someone retires. Especially, since James has thirty years with the department.
Also, by asking questions of the Mayor’s staff, it is said to me an investigation is still ongoing. Is it one, two, three or a combination of multiple investigations. That I and thus we don’t know.
