The Knox County Commission today during the regular business session had three of the eleven Commissioners hanging together on two items. Obviously, it takes six of eleven to pass anything. So, the ‘three amigos’ were locked arm in arm in opposition to the majority of their colleagues.
The first item was supporting a different candidate to replace John Valliant on the Board of Trustees of the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center. The second item was a substitute motion to strike out language giving the Chairman authority over the Knox County Merit System for Knox County Sheriff’s Office employees. Commissioner Courtney Durrett asked why this language was staying in because the Commission postponed the four ordinances for a July 15 work session discussion to vet it all out. Chairman Larsen Jay one of the ‘three amigos’ said keep it so we can fix it later, very Nancy Pelosi like, when about the Health Care Reform vote she said, “But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it” Several Commissioners said if we have to fix it anyway, there is no need to pass anything and just pass something when we fix it. The ‘three amigos’ voted not to strike the language, the ‘three amigos’ are Jay, John Schoonmaker and Carson Dailey.
