Knox County Merit System Council Had Some Drama

The Knox County Merit System Council met on Tuesday afternoon. They approved the minutes of the previous meeting. Additionally, they had to decide whether to grant a grievance hearing for a uniformed officer.

The officers attorneys were present, Knox County Law Department Attorney David Wigler was standing in for Houston Havasy. Instead of filing a response on behalf of Sheriff Tom Spangler before this meeting for the council to read. Wigler read it from his cellphone.

Then Knox County Law Department Attorney Myers Morton stopped the meeting to tell them they didn’t vote on the motion. They had  voted as the video on my phone shows. It seems the law department is trying to carry Sheriff Tom Spangler’s orders.

Also, in the audience was Lysette Alves, HR lady for Knox Sheriff Spangler. She was accompanied by Chief William Purvis and Captain Jeff Smith. When they voted to have a grievance hearing, Alves threw her notepad on the seat beside her and said “this is a joke”

Well I guess we know how the Sheriff feels, because when Alves speaks, she speaks for him, I’ve been told.
