Watching the Monroe County School Board meeting this week, here. I was outraged at the arrogance of Board members and the non public service rules they have.
The room was packed with citizens, one member of the public, Mrs. Davis spoke about a lack of textbooks at Sequoyah High School, concerns of discipline and charges by Monroe County Sheriffs Office for fights. Recently, Sequoyah school had an incident where a vape pen laced with fentanyl caused issues for three individuals. The School system closed the next day, “to clean and sanitize the school.”
A citizen spoke out of order at the meeting. A board member asked for “the rules” to be explained. The rule is you must request 10 days in advance to speak to the board. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Board Member Dean Williams went on to explain, the ten day rule must be kept for a cooling down period. YOU SIR, do not understand your position or your role, if you need to public you want to serve to “cool down”.
My wish and hope is that there are a few of those citizens in that room other night concerned about their own children that will challenge each one of those board members in the upcoming 2022 school board elections.
In the time I have been watching this board, (thank you YouTube) they quietly replaced a competent, educated Superintendent (my opinion) without adequate public discussion and now they are hiding information about the drug laced vape pen from the public under the “excuse” that it is an ongoing investigation.
Monroe County needs a REVOLUTION!
