Compass Knox was the first to report that Knox County School Board First District Representative and current Board Vice Chair Evetty Satterfield will not seek re-election in May and August of 2022.
Last years Vice Chair and Fourth District Representative Virginia Babb has already announced she will not seek re-election. Babb due to the partisan elections. Satterfield just entering a new season in life, she says.
Babb and Satterfield both completing first terms. I didn’t always agree with their positions, but I knew they had studied the issue and I was confident they voted their conviction.
Patti Bounds who will complete two terms is not seeking re-election. You will recall she ran unsuccessfully for State House after Rep. Bill Dunn retired. Bounds along with her husband Tommy have several children and grandchildren, I suspect family life is less stressful than School Board. Three candidates have emerged, Sherri Garrett, Steve Triplett and Cameron Ward.
It does leave current School Board Chair Kristy Kristi facing already announced Phil King as a challenger for the ninth district.
Betsy Henderson is running for a full term in this years election for district Six. No known challengers have surfaced for Henderson.
So, the 2022 election for School Board will be interesting . Let’s hope it gets better.
