Last month (September) a majority of Knox County Commissioners lacked to appoint a member to the Knox County Merit System for Knox Sheriff Employees Board of Directors. So this month (October) the Commission will take another try at it.
As a former member of the Merit System Council, back in the late 1990’s. I resigned in 2000, after being elected to Knox County School Board. Not because I had to, but because I thought sharing the wealth of VOLUNTARY service for the community was the best thing to do. This position does not pay anything and about the only benefit you get is access to the door of the City County Building, without going through security.
First, Christopher Manning was selected in September to a three year term as a Board of Director, Manning a resident of Knox County’s Fourth Commission District had served as the alternate since April.
Now let us see the applicants that applied for consideration in September, that has said no thanks for October.
De’Ossie D. Dingus
Darryl Whitehead
Three applicants from September are back for October. Weiner had achieved 6 votes, however, when the Knox County Commission went to cast the final vote, Commissioner Schoonmaker changed his vote and Weiner came up one vote short.
Now enter the two new applicants that complete the list of five applicants to be considered in October. Both are Attorneys, the names may look familiar. Sarah Keith is former candidate for Knox County General Sessions Judge Division I. Before you believe that John Valliant is the guy that is the Attorney at most zoning meetings, he is NOT that John Valliant, he is the son of John Valliant. Just as my kids shouldn’t be judged for who their father is, please don’t judge John Valliant on his father, good or bad.

Now you know who the applicants are.
