The Beer License at UT… Neyland, Thompson Boling Et al. Headed to Suspension / Revocation Hearing

So, why was I so bored that I watched the Knoxville City Council Beer Board this evening? Valid Question, I am not convinced why either. BUT YUGE news was found, so there it is.

Aramark the beer vendor on the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus was before the beer board for a second underage violation back on September 24 (I seem to recall was the date). Knoxville Attorney Tasha Blakney representing her client Aramark well.

The intent for this meeting was to discuss a remediation plan because of the second underage sale. Blakney began by acknowledging this past Saturday, Aramark received a third violation during the Tennessee / Alabama game. A third violation goes straight to a suspension/revocation hearing. Do not pass go, Do not collect anything.

After some back and forth questioning. Eventually KPD Inspections Unit Supervisor Sgt. John Coward explained that on violation 2, two cadets approached, one was ID checked and turned away. The second cadet was not ID’d and made a purchase.

The third sell during the Tennessee/Alabama again was not ID’d. This time the seller was an elderly non profit volunteer. Aramark allows non profit organizations to sell in order to receive a portion of the money for their organization.

Apparently, Aramark is hoping to discuss with UT setting up some barriers, where maybe ID’s will be checked and then funneled into a line to purchase beer in the future. Beer Board Chair Janet Testerman asked about the timing of the suspension/revocation hearing and future UT football games. City Council Attorney Rob Frost did acknowledge that the suspension/revocation hearing will be noticed tomorrow, October 19. Obviously sales will occur this weekend during the Tennessee/UT Martin game and If another underage sale occurs, obviously the hearing will be amended.

But a hearing would occur before the season ends.
