At Monday nights Knox County School Board work session much discussion was had about Knox County Elementary School Playgrounds. Also at tonights Board Meeting discussion was had about playgrounds.
NOW, as far as the previous School System Superintendent Bob Thomas and the former Facilities Director that decided to tear down Adrian Burnett and the 2019 Lonsdale playgrounds and not build them back. Y’all (current regime) better fix that!
at Large Knox County Commissioner Seat 10 decided Monday night to show up at the School Board meeting and speak how many checks he and his wife have written to help provide play equipment at schools throughout Knox County. Well that is good, that is money freed up for teacher salaries and essential material for learning.
He slammed Sunnyview Elementary,(the school i attended grades 2-8) for lack of play equipment, well guess what, back in the day, we had a field fo run in, we played baseball, football, kick ball, dodge ball and had one of fhe first outdoor classrooms in Knox County in the nineteen seventies.
We knew that outside we could play without having to have play structures because we were not addicted to gaming systems and we didn’t have parents that would send us to five star resorts.
Play was what we did, camping is what we did, it was outdoors, with a mind that could create play.
When at Large Commissioner seat 10 spoke Monday night, he said he spoke for he and Carson Dailey another Commissioner in supporting more money for playgrounds. Since the two of them out of the 11 Commissioners have put school playgrounds in the Commissions purview, let me give you some thoughts.
In order for the School district to pay custodians, educational assistants, staff, teachers and faculty more money and support their employees. Knox County should take all playgrounds and put them under Knox County Parks and Rec.
I mean what Knox County did at South Doyle Middle was so good, NOT.
The former director of Parks and Rec. was just recently awarded a monetary sum, oh wait that was over a lawsuit.
Knox County Commission can take over the playgrounds and take that burden off the schools to allow them to do what schools do, educate children.
