Sheriff Tim Hutchison and Friends BBQ

Last evening from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Sheriff Tim Hutchison & Friends held a BBQ at the I-75 Expo Center. I am pleased to say that the Brian Hornback name was listed on the invitation as a friend. I have been an active supporter of Sheriff Hutchison’s since the first Hutchison race in 1990, when we defeated Joe Fowler a democrat Sheriff.

I am sure that you were at the BBQ, everyone in Knox County was there. I made my intial appearance at the BBQ 30 minutes after it started, even with my position with the Republican Party, I had to park nearly on Clinton Highway. Which means that when I left at the conclusion of the BBQ, I had to walk back to Clinton Highway. Keep in mind this is the former site of a Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse, they have big parking lots. I am not complaining, I needed the exercise.

I waited to post this on Brian’s Blog until I received the phone call about the attendance numbers. The Expo Center has reported to my sources that 1200 were in attendance. Did you hear me on this? One Thousand Two Hundred. I am sure the Expo Center and/or caterer came up with that number by the number of plates given out. That doesn’t take into consideration someone like me, I didn’t take a plate and eat the food. I grabbed my addictive beverage of choice and talked to most of my Republican and Democrat friends. Yes, there were many Democrats in attendance.

BTW (by the way) my addictive beverage of choice, Coffee. I drink nearly six cups a day. I have seen another blog post that reported some good news about Coffee and I will be posting about it soon.

    Mr. Hornback,
Glad to hear that the sheriff’s party was a success. Parking is always lousy when you’re late – my experience bears that out as well
    🙂
1.2K? Wow! That’s a really great crowd, overwhelming in fact. I’m not surprised that many Democrats attended. Many Republicans attended Mike Padgett’s chilli’s Feed. I think I may have seen you there but I’m not sure if it was you. It’s where I met Steve Hall, he’s a cool guy and would make a good county mayor. I was impressed with him – more than I thought I would.
I’m also surprised and pleased to discover that you’re a coffee afficiondo! So am I! I do have say tho I put away about 2X what you do (no brag, just fact). Take Care!

  2. SteveMule,

No, I did not attend Mike Padgett’s Chili supper, I never have attended it.

As Knox County Republican Party Chairman, I would never do that. It’s part of the job responsibility, I believe.

Tuesday May 2, 2006 I will be consuming my addictive beverage Coffee and my addictive sunflower seeds all day long.

I consume an average 6 cups a day and a large bag of sunflower seeds every two days, reminds me of the Jimmy Buffet lyrics, “eatin’ sunflower seeds, drinkin’ lots
of carrot juice and soakin’ up the
    rays”

    Mr. Hornback,
You don’t go to Mike’s chilli feed? Everybody goes – or at least I thought they did. Iwas pleasently surprised at my first one to discover how bipartisan it was. Everyone buries their respective hatchet and has a good time. I’ve met both mayors there, Rep. Duncun, state reps & senators and county commissioners of both parties there. I even met Chad Tindell there while he was still GOP chair. He wasn’t at all like I thought he would be. I think you might be taking your partisianship much too seriously. It’s a fun little get together for everyone. The foods good, the chilli is chilli (hard to make bad chilli) but the brownies … the brownies are to die for! You should go to next one.
What’s you opinion of decaf? I think it kind’a misses the point, don’t you?

  4. SteveMule,

I am not Chad Tindell. Just as Chad was not Sue Methvin or Mike Prince, the previous GOP Chair’s.

You may be correct that I may take my partianship too seriously. While Chairman, I believe the party that elected me Chairman, expects me to be a bona fide Republican. The decision of Chad is Chad’s.

Over the years, I have had pleasant conversations with Mike and Mark Padgett. However, my current job is REPUBLICAN Chairman. At the end of the day if the Demo’s are successful in retaining Padgett’s seat. I will shake Mike’s hand and look forward to his service another 4 years as our County Clerk.

If a Republican is elected, then I have secured another seat for the Republican’s and it will be a good day in Knox County.

I can and do work with the ones that Knox County voters have selected.

    Mr. Hornback,
    OK. I can understand that.
The question about Decaf should have said: “… it kind’a miss the point don’t you think?” I accidently let of the word “think” and that might have made it confusing. Sorry.

  6. I drink decaf occasionally. But normally 90% of the time I drink regular.

    Mr. Hornback,
That’s about what it is me too.

I have to agree with Brian on this one. It might be okay for individual GOP candidates or elected persons to be at Padgett’s chili supper-but the partisan GOP Chairman should not attend-the look is not good-anymore than I would not expect the Democratic Chairman to be at the Sheriff’s Barbecue.

I was not at the barbecue-but I was entertaining company.
