The reality of Knoxville’s homeless.
As I can see from the reaction arising from my social media posts made years ago, emotions run high when people don’t know all the facts.
Here are the facts.
Since purchasing my house in 2004: Number of times that I have been physically assaulted— one attack that required hospitalization and surgery; and another that murdered my dog—23.
Since 2014: Number of times that my workers have been physically assaulted, 15.
Since 2014: Total amount of property losses I’ve incurred from theft, burglary and vandalism from my properties: over $250,000.
Since 2019: Number of times 911 was called to assist apparent overdoses in or around my properties: over 24.
Since 2004: Number of times police were notified of crimes against myself, my property, my tenants, and my workers with limited or no response: too many to count.
My response to these statistics:
2016: Created Marlow Charities Inc., a private foundation that I self fund with about $50,000 annually.
Since 2015: Number of Knoxville’s Chronically Homeless employed by Marlow Charities Inc.: over 100 individuals.
Since 2004: Total investment made in Mechanicsville: over $8,000,000.
I’m not a politician. I don’t come from a powerful family. I am a neighbor, a friend, an uncle and an entrepreneur and I’m a person with real world experience dealing day to day with the Chronically Homeless in Knoxville, and I’m frustrated. I am accountable for my actions. If I’ve used poor language in social media posts, I own that and apologize. I care deeply about all people and my record proves it.
