Last year in Southwest Knox County (Northshore/Choto Rd) there was opposition by a few area homeowner group leaders to “low income housing” also called subsidized housing. The Dominion Group walked away.
Now we have the Harvey Farm at Northshore and Harvey Road. Back on September 12, 2023 I mentioned here that Knox Schools should build the Southwest Sector School on this property. Then on October 4, 2023 here it was one property Schools looked at before buying in Farragut.
Now, Cook Brothers Homes is ready to build similar housing to what exists along the Northshore/Choto/Harvey corridor.
The same players are ready to push against this development. Today Monday February 19, 2024 (Presidents Day) a little leas than 40 people (my count) gathered in the Farragut Community Center.
Two of the Five Knox County Commission candidates for the Fifth District were present, Angela Russell was a part of the presentation, one of the organizers had a momentary hostile reaction toward Brian Walker. (edit, Walker informed me that after the meeting he and the gentleman had a conversation and found mutual ground moving forward.)
The group has engaged the same out of state PR Firm as they had last time and they have engaged the services of Knoxville Attorney Daniel Sanders.
Here is the first video, here is Attorney Daniel Sanders, here is Community Activist Mike Mitchell and finally here is the Q and A.
Knox County Commission is set to vote on Monday, this Monday February 26, 2024 during the 7 pm zoning agenda on the rezoning. Cook Brothers Homes will be there and the opposition will be there. Northshore Drive is a state route so there are multiple governmental entities involved.
