First in the State Senate only in District Two (Blount, Monroe, Polk and part of Bradley Counties) is Senator Art Swann retiring. There are currently three Republicans and one Democrat seeking the position. Freshman State Rep Bryan Ritchey of Blount County is leaving the House for the Senate. A seat I am told has been his real focus. I am told he was upset with Senator Swann over deer urine. Ritchey must first get more votes than Blount County Circuit Court Clerk Tom Hatcher and John G. Pullias. Tom Hatcher began his public service career in 1982 with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office where he was employed for 10 years. He worked as a patrolman, a criminal investigator and as director of the Fifth Judicial District Drug Task Force. He was elected Circuit Court Clerk for Blount County, Tennessee in 1994. In 2000, he received his Certified Public Administrator Degree from The University of Tennessee. In 2004, he received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Roane State Community College.
