Breaking News: Knox School Board Member Kristi Kristy’s Resolution for Next Week’s Board Meeting

Next Week, former Knox County School Board Chair and Ninth District School Board Kristi Kristy will present a Resolution related to the recent TN State Law allowing teachers to go armed (with concealed carry weapons aka guns). The Resolution will be published on Wednesday May 1, 2024. However, I requested and she shared it with me. Understanding that there could be some changes to this “draft” Resolution.

WHEREAS Knox County Schools desires to be a safe place to learn and work for students, faculty, and staff;
 
WHEREAS Knox County Schools is blessed with competent, highly-trained certified School Security Officers and School Resource Officers;
 
WHEREAS Knox County Schools has tremendous partnerships with the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office;
 
WHEREAS law enforcement officers are heroes who should be celebrated and recognized for their service to our community and schools; and
 
WHEREAS Knox County has invested millions in school safety and has ensured that every school in Knox County has at least one School Security Officer assigned to the school;
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Knox County Board of Education hereby affirms that certified law enforcement personnel are equipped to manage the safety and security of Knox County Schools.  To maintain the highest possible standards for student safety, School Security Officers, School Resource Officers, and law enforcement partners will continue to be the armed personnel on campus.
