Last week at the North Knox Republican Club meeting, Chair Candidates Buddy Burkhardt and Ruth Kulhman spoke about their candidacy for Chair of the Knox County Republican Party. The meeting was held at Louie’s out on Old Broadway. Both candidates represented themselves well. Burkhardt talking and then Ruth spoke and she talked about alot of different things including her grandchildren.
Now, fast forward one week to this past Monday when the West Knox Republican Club met. Burkhardt spoke, John Gabriel was there and spoke and when Ruth spoke. She read from a prepared speech. Now, this should have been the club where she is most comfortable as it is her home club. But she was very intently following script. Much like the way Obama reads a teleprompter, however, she wasn’t as polished as the President. One of her main suppporters the publisher of a weekly giveaway newspaper was present. No confirmation if he or a focused staff writer may have written the speech for her.
As for the three candidates left in this race. Ruth likes to say that she is the only woman running for Chair. Is that not noticable? Should John Gabriel say I am the only hispanic running for Chair? Or should Burkhardt say he is the only native Knox Countian running? I mean do you really have to remind people of the obivious?
Stay tuned, it will get more interesting as we move through tomorrow night (precinct reorganizations) and then the county reorganization on Saturday February 2, 2013.
The real question is this coming Monday at the Halls Republican Club and then at the county convention anmd any other Republican cluyb meetings, which Ruth will show up?
