Which Statement Best Represents Knox County Schools?

George Hamilton an active 88 year old Knox County citizen addressed the Knox County School Board this evening. He advocated not requiring Algebra for all Knox County students as only 1% of the students will use Algebra in any future careers.

He went on to ask the Board which best describes the Board and Knox County Schools.

1) Blind leading the Blind
2) Messed up as a one car funeral
3) As screwed up as a Chinese fire drill

No one answered Mr. Hamilton’s question.

Mr. Hamilton has been a frequent speaker at County Commission and tonight it was good to see that he is still active and doing his best to make his views known.

The school board has clearly forgotten what its role is.

If you criticize, as McMillan is the only one who seems capable of doing so, you’re not seen as a TEAM player.

And I have yet to hear a sound from my school board member Fugate.

If they think they work for KCS, they need to hand in their resignations and apply to Central Office.

It’s obvious they’ve forgotten whom they work for.

Fugate is following the path of Dan Murphy exactly, there were such high hopes for bringing accountability and efficiency to the Knox County Public School System, however, after two (2) years in office, Murphy and Fugate were both part of the problem and nowhere near part of the solution.

And now the much balleyhooed math academy in the old train station is enrolling students not from Knox County? Aren’t these our local resources being utilized to educate kids from the surrounding areas? If we can’t fill the STEM academy with kids from Knox County, shut the thing down, put the money into the current schools we have and get out of the nice to look at nice to have mentality and focus on what you have to have.
