On Saturday March 22, 2014 after a 7 days away from TN. I was on a Spring Break trip with my wife and youngest son. But on Saturday 3/22/2014 in driving over in Blount County on Old Knoxvill Highway I noticed a change to Lance Evans sign. See below,
Theses actions occurring after this post concerning the four Juvenile Judge candidates signs not in compliance with the Judicial Ethics Advisory Opinion. I am told that Kenlyn Foster and Tammy Tilson Hicks have been modifying their signs as well. However, I have not discovered their modified signs while in Blount County. Tab Burkhlater the fourth candidate has not modified his signs at all. While Evans did not use Elect, For or Candidate which are the three words, I guess his effort should be acknowledged.
I have also been told through the Blount County rumor mill that the Blount County Primary Board sent all candidates a letter saying that they are advised of and asked to comply with the Judicial Ethics Opinion.
My friend Geoff Hampton for years has called me the “East TN Difference Maker”. I guess that with these changes that maybe I will begin using the term that he has been using for me. Because who say BrianHornback.Com is NOT the East TN Difference Maker?
Hello Brian, I came across your update to the sign posting in Blount county while trying to figure out how to respond to your initial post. I am glad you had the decency to update after the initial post! I give you credit for noticing the error in all the candidate’s campaign signs and I applaud Blount county for hastily sending out letters to correct and comply with the Judicial Ethics Opinion to the candidate’s. However, I am also of the opinion one of your readers made a comment in reference to. I am wondering why a journalist, such as yourself, which seems to mostly give insight to Knox county jurisdiction issues made such an attempt to alert Blount county citizens of this non-compliance with all candidates but one? It would appear since you do not live nor pay taxes in Blount county your initial post may have had a more menacing meaning? Yes, you created change, but you planted a seed of mistrust within the good citizens of Blount county related to all candidates except for one! In my “humble” opinion, it was a very tactful attempt to steer the reader toward the direction of a candidate that would appear from the correct formatting of a campaign sign to be the people’s choice for judge! It played on the emotions of the reader to lean toward a candidate that “obviously” is the only one that can be trusted without having to write any facts related to this candidate’s past behaviors or credentials that would make him an impartial judge for our youth. Therefore allowing you to make the statement and to coerce the reader to believe you are a non partial party for one candidate versus another. I would challenge you,as a journalist, to not only plant a seed in the direction you are attempting to sway the reader toward, but to prove your impartiality and write a story reflecting the good assets of all the candidates based on facts and allowing the good citizens of Blount county to make an informative vote! I don’t make this post in retaliation efforts, since the reader can obviously get the jist of my mistrust of the one candidate you are endorsing as the “honest” one, only to merely challenge your readers to look into sound, factual and intelligent based decisions when they are voting in this “good ole boy club” county! Thank you.
Sonya, you make a valid point. However, on the initial post the only the issue was at the time.
Since that first and subsequent post a contributor has researched one of the other candidates background in business, I am considering posting that information as well.
There has been some references to one candidate having an ad on this website. That candidates 3 month ad was listed as an in kind contribution by myself to him. He has been an exemplary legal counsel for me and my family and has NEVER lost, his expertise in the juvenile court practice of law is superior to all others in my opinion.
As for comparing and contrasting me and this blog as a journalist and a news source, I am a blogger (part time as a hobby) I am a like any other opinion source. While an appeals court has opined (rightfully so) that we are to be treated with the same protection as news entities. Again this is solely my take and my opinion. I welcome your opinion and your considerate comment. At the end of the day, it is my view and how I see the situation.
I hope you return again and again.
