Duncan Was Right Once Again

I was upset when Congressman Duncan voted against the Iraq war, three years later, I realized he was right and I was wrong. Today his opponent and Congressman Duncan were on Hallerin Hilton Hill’s show on 98.7 Newstalk radio. First his opponent and then the Congressman.

Hallerin asked the Congressman about debating his opponent. Congressman Duncan explained that he in his multiple two year terms of service to our district he has met with constituents, conducted interviews, written, published and mailed newsletters to the citizens of the Second district explaining his views and soliciting the views of the district citizens. Duncan said for him to debate someone who is a “Johnny Come lately” gives the opponent a instant (unearned) credibility and audience.

I thought about Duncan’s position and then began to see Duncan signs and his opponents signs side by side. I have talked with several of the individuals that own a large amount of commercial property in Knox County and they are upset that they gave the Duncan for Congress campaign permission to put the signs up and now his opponent is coming along as a “Johnny Come Lately” and placing signs without permission.

The property owners asked for my advice. My first advice I gave them is to call Duncan’s opponent and vent about his signs being placed on their property without permission. My second advice is for them to inform Duncan’s opponent where he can pick up his sign(s) after taking it/them down. If he nor anyone from his campaign comes to get the signs by a specified time then dispose of them accordingly. That is my advice.

Any court of law would/should side with the property owner being able to control signs on their property. If not and if Duncan’s opponent threatens a lawsuit for removing the signs then as business and property owners they should take signs and place them in front of Duncan’s opponents place of business.

I realize the Congressman’s opponent is young, I realize the Congressman’s opponent did NOT vote in the August Republican primary of 2012 for the Congressman or his opponents. This is whole process of being a candidate and voting is new to him. But, surely respect for an individuals personal and commercial property should be part of a good respectful raising.

Anytime, you see a Duncan for Congress sign, it is there by permission of the property owner.
